However, as in most business novels the attempt to integrate the personal lives into the story was a big failure. His style is a welcomed change to conventional textbooks and is effective.
Recommended for anyone who deals with any form of project management. The main thesis for cafena book in my opinion is that Project management is a blend of both Art and Science, that it doesn’t have to be one or the other. Goldratt was an educator, author, physicist, philosopher and business leader, but first and foremost, he was a thinker who provoked others to think. I have been talking about Critical Chain in my project management classes for about five years now; however, I have only done so in broad strokes.
To be honest, I didn’t learn anything revolutionary in the book. I am critiva a huge fan of buffers; I prefer the use of calculated contingency reserves.
For example Synchronous Manufacturing: Fortunately, Critical Chain is the shorter of the two books, so I was ab I read this for my project management class.
As an Engineer I am used to reading highly structured texts where the content is clearly partitioned into numbered sections with a series of formulas and figures to present the theory. I assume that most managers could find someone they could relate to in the book, but the star is still absolutely clear, the professor Richard Silver whom I wouldn’t doubt is derived a lot from Goldratt’s own life and experiences.
I really enjoyed “The Goal” and this one ranks at least as high. If you like books and love to build cool products, we may be looking for you.
I wish I had someone to discuss the applications of this book for my business but perhaps that’s simply reading it with my operations manager. But you must be careful in your comparisons if you want to derive meaningful results.

To me, applying the Theory of Constraints to Project Management is analogous to applying vibration theory of a mechanical system mass, damper and spring to an electrical system inductance, resistance and capacitance.
And the way CCPM is developed in the book takes some interesting turns.
I had never actually read Goldratt’s book, but I knew enough about the theory to respond to the kinds of questions I was receiving. Well written, easy to understand book on interesting topic. Which means that if we decided to do something in one link, we have to examine the ramifications on the other links.
