“Is Google Making us Stupid” https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2008/07/is-google-making-us-stupid/306868/ 1. “Is Google Making us stupid?” How does Nicholas Carr answer this question, and what evidence does he provide to support his answer? 2. What possible objections to his own position does Carr introduce–and why do you think he does so? How effectively does he counter these objections? 3. Car begins the essay by quoting an exchange between HAL and Dave, a supercomputer and an astronaut in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey– and he concludes by reflecting on that scene. What happens to HAL and Dave, and how does this outcome support his argument. 5. In his essay on pp. 340-60, Clive Thompson reaches a different conclusion then Carr does, saying that “At their best, today’s digital tools us see more, retain more, communicate more. At their worst, the leave us prey to the manipulation of the bookmakers. But on balance… What is happening is deeply positive.” Write a paragraph or two discussing how Carr might respond. What would he agree with, and what would he disagree with?

A woman named Wendy comes to you for in designing her training program.  Wendy has been trying to lose weight, tone up, and become more flexible.  Remember, she is a “beginner” so you will need to explain everything she will need to do in good detail, including how many and how often of each thing you give her to do.  ( ask a professional trainer at a local fitness center for assistance. Online information can often be misleading if you do not know all the facts.) 1. I would like to tighten & tone my muscles, but not bulk up.  Should I work out with heavy weights and do fewer repetitions OR should I use light weights and do more reps?  Why? 2. Is it ok to run every day?  Why or why not? 3. What is the best way for me to warm up before I run?  Provide details… 4. create a weekly exercise plan for me so that I can achieve my goals.  Be specific about what and when I need to do everything. Days of the week I should work out and days I should rest (if any). What I should do on each day (run, weights, stretch, etc.)? Is there anything I need to do before and/or after I exercise?

Codrina is a 40-year-old, divorced, white female seeking counseling at a community mental health center.  She is seeking counseling because she has been depressed, unable to sleep well and has lost her appetite since the sudden ending of her marriage one month ago.  Before leaving, her husband told her that he did not love her any longer and doubted whether he ever did. He told Codrina that he had felt lonely and distant from her for the entire three years of their short marriage. He now questions whether she is even capable of feeling love for another person. Codrina was raised in an orphanage and her childhood years were characterized by isolation, hunger and scarcity. She describes spending many days just staring at the wall and rocking back and forth. After she left the orphanage at 16 years of age she worked in odd jobs and was in and out of abusive relationships with men for a few years until she met her husband about four years ago. She lived with him for six months before they got married. Even from the start she had a difficult time trusting him or any man for that matter. She showed little interest in sex, never cried, rarely laughed and had a very subdued mood most of the time. In the second year of her marriage, Codrina discovered that her husband was having an affair with a woman he worked with. Instead of being upset, she was almost relieved because it seemed to take the pressure off of her to engage in sexual intercourse with her husband.  Out of guilt, he finally told her about the affair. Upon hearing his confession, Condrina showed no emotion and didn’t even ask him to end the affair. From that point forward her husband spent few nights at home and one month ago announced he was filing for divorce. Now, in addition to her insomnia and poor appetite she is neglecting her self-care to the point that she is being shunned by others who come in contact with her, which deepens her sense of isolation. She’s coming to therapy to see if you can her before she loses all hope that she can regain control of her life. Assume that you are a cognitive behavioral therapist and have agreed to work with Codrina. Using principles and techniques from Beck’s Cognitive Therapy (CT), respond to the following questions:

Instructions The final project will synthesize the information from the course and focus on a problem you have identified in your community (or community of your choice) through your preceding assignments. This is your opportunity to develop a problem statement, perform a literature review, and devise a methodology of researching the topic of your choice related to the course. For specific paper instructions in form and content, note: Final Project should be at least 15 pages long, APA-formatted, including title page and references. 5 References Attached are the previous assignment that I submitted and references for the Final papers.

According to Nisbett (2012), “Intelligence . . . involves the ability to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend complex ideas, learn quickly and learn from experience.” Nisbett goes on to say that intelligence can be best measured by IQ tests. Intelligence is hereditary and there are many environmental factors that influence this. It is also related that IQ can have an impact on academic achievement (Nisbett, 2012). Academic achievement is based on how students excel with schoolwork, exams, or other scholarly goals. Studying can with academic achievement, whereas intelligence is something that is already there, a deeper understanding. One can set their mind to work hard in order to achieve certain things, while on the other hand, intelligence is an ability that already exists for some. For example, there is the movie of , where a gentleman by the name of Raymond had a very high IQ and could solve complex problems, but did not have common knowledge of other things due to being autistic (Levinson, et. al, 2004). Intelligence is something that he already had, although he had delays in other aspects. An environmental factor that can have an effect on intelligence and academic achievement is socioeconomic status. Nisbett (2012) relates that children who live in a low socioeconomic status do not get to fully develop genetic potential if they have a high IQ. This means that the environment has an effect on genetics. A child can be born with a high IQ, but they need to be in an environment that will them develop that potential they possess. Socioeconomic status has an effect on intelligence and academic achievement because children do not have the same resources and opportunities as other wealthier children. They are not able to fully develop their gifts by going to private schools, getting tutoring, or having literature to develop their brains.  They do not receive as much stimulation as would be needed to them advance. A biological factor that can have an influence on intelligence and academic achievement as pointed out by Nesbitt (2012) is breastfeeding. Nisbett reports that the IQ of a child can increase by 6 points from breastfeeding. Nutrition is very important for growing children and their developing bodies. I believe the nutrients that come from breastfeeding and the health benefits is something that is very well-known. People always hear that it is better to breastfeed your children versus giving them formula due to all the benefits from breastmilk. Berk (2014) states that there are multiple children who do not have access to food of high quality and this can lead to attention and memory issues as well as low intelligence and problems with behavior. It can be inferred that proper nutrition leads to a healthy development and lack thereof can have effects on intelligence and academic achievement. References: Berk, L. E. (2014). The last paper of the course is a final product represents an authentic  demonstration competency, because it allows you to reflect on what you learned in this course and apply it to your life and future career.  To successfully complete this project, you will be expected to apply what you have learned in this course and should include several of  the following course objectives: 1. Define and explain basic Industrial/Organizational Psychology terms and concepts 2. Demonstrate knowledge and application of major concepts and theoretical perspectives as well as historical and future trends in I/O Psychology 3. Apply an understanding of ethical codes of behavior as they relate to the field of I/OPsychology 4. Demonstrate an understanding of research methodology as it relates to I/O Psychology 5. Use critical and creative thinking as well as skeptical inquiry to address issues related to the field of I/OPsychology 6. Demonstrate critical thinking skills through detection of correct and faulty applications of I/O psychological principles and theories. Main Elements Should be about Diversity Should Cover 1. Background/situation of your selected topic 2. Key subtopics 3. Method of research 4. Findings/results 5. Discussion (including your views, opinions, andobservations) 6. Closing comments** 7. References **Also make sure to answer the following questions in the closing comments of your paper: What did you learn from your research? How does this new knowledge change your perceptions of Industrial/Organizational Psychology? How can you use what you have learned in your personal life and/or work life? Below is the template provided: Here is where you should write a brief paragraph introducing me to your paper. Here is where you should evaluate and offer an of your journal articles and use sources. Minimum of 3 peer-reviewed articles. Minimum of 3 paragraphs for each article telling me about your chosen articles. Either at the end or the beginning of your literature review, you well give us and define key terms. Leadership style, job satisfaction and motivation (these are common themes to your subject) . For the purpose of this paper leadership style is defined as …(Source) . Job satisfaction simply means…(Source) Motivation is defined as …(Source) One study by Boerma et al. (2017) argued both sides of this scenario.  In the point for leaders are born, they reviewed numerous studies around identical and fraternal twins to evaluate both genetic and environmental influences on leadership.  A majority of these studies showed moderate genetic contributions for leadership traits up to 30%.  According to Boerma et al. (2017), the evidence consistently showed a genetic component to leadership.  Boerma et al. (2017) go on to argue the opposing point, stating the idea that people are born leaders should not be supported because of 3 main rationales. . This is what you found based on your journal articles. The Renko et al., study was multilevel in nature, consisting of 281 employees nested within 59 departments. Measures For all measures, the participants rated items using a five-point Likert scale where 1 = “strongly disagree” and 5 = “strongly agree.” The first survey consisted of studying leadership. Hanna (2019) used a survey to determine….What did your journal articles uses as a method to explore your topic. . The subordinates rated the entrepreneurial leadership behavior of their department head using the eight-item scale developed by Renko et al. (2015). Sample items include “My supervisor has creative solutions to problems” and “My supervisor challenges and pushes me to act in a more innovative way.” Sample items include “The work I do is very important to me” (meaning), “I am confident about my ability to do my job” (competence), “I have signifi cant autonomy in determining how I do my job” (self-determination), and “My impact on what happens in my department is large” (impact). Th e Cronbach ’ s alpha for each of the subscales was .90 (meaning), .75 (competence), .79 (self-determination), and .92 (impact). Again, it’s hard to have results (from your journal articles), if you did not have methods section. This where you describe the outcomes of research-what did the various researchers find? Boerma et al. (2017) concluded that leaders most likely arise from a combination of genetics, as well as development through training and life experience.  Interestingly, each group member provided their brief opinion on this topic (table 1. Below).  The group who believes leaders are born follow a consistent theme that certain innate traits are needed in order to develop into an outstanding leader.  Conversely, the opposing group who support the idea leaders are made shared a consistent theme that training, hard work and experience is what makes leaders great.  Based on these results, Boerma et al. (2017) unsurprisingly note the answer is likely not just one viewpoint or the other but a combination of both. Various researchers looked at motivation and leadership. Common themes between the research were… While most agree that … some stated …. To start, numerous studies have been done to identify and describe the traits and characteristics all leaders share. This research would lead one to believe that a combination or mix of certain traits must be present for someone to be a good leader. Understanding what motivates and drives people to behavior in a certain way can be beneficial to how you interact with peers on the job. Much like personalities, motivation can stem from different backgrounds, environment and expectations. There are internal and external factors that contribute to what motivates someone for example to have a good work ethic or go above and beyond to . Having the knowledge to identify motivating factors and…

Assignment 1: Loopholes and Technicalities You may have observed such a situation before: A highly publicized and outrageous crime has taken place, and the suspect is on trial for the entire world to see. It is clear in the media that the defendant is guilty of a heinous crime, and the case is a slam dunk. Then, the unthinkable happens—the defendant is found ! You are a defense attorney representing a previously convicted child sex offender. Your client has been incarcerated for five years, and the state provides you with new documents that indicate that the process by which the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) lab conducted tests was not in accordance with the generally accepted protocols that govern DNA testing. As a result, although any DNA contamination (which could clear your client) was unlikely, it is just possible that your client was wrongly convicted. You file a motion to have the case against your client dismissed because of the possibility of DNA contamination. Because your client probably committed a heinous act against a child, you discover the next morning that your e-mail inbox is full of hate mail and your voicemail is also full of messages from people who are outraged by your actions, trying to free your client on a “loophole.” Submission Details: By , in at least 250 words, post to the your answers to the following questions: By , read and respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts by commenting on their examples and explanations.
